The notation used for intabulations differs from the traditional musical notation in that it renders the music as a graphic representation of the finger positions on an instrument’s keys or strings. It addresses the technique of adapting originally vocal works such as chansons, motets, and madrigals for instrumental use. The publication under review is the adapted text of the author’s dissertation defended at the Université Libre de Bruxelles in 2002. The book thus offers new insights into a specific segment of the reception history of Lasso’s music. The present book offers a valuable study of the lute intabulations of the music of Orlando di Lasso, one of the principal composers of the late 16th century, also known by his original French name Roland de Lassus or its Latinized equivalent, Orlandus Lassus.
